Sincona sale 91, lot 3334

This specimen was lot 3334 in Sincona sale 91 (Zürich, May 2024), where it sold for 300 CHF (about US$397 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ Luzern, Dicken 1612, Luzern. Jahreszahl in Umschrift. Fast vorzüglich. Leichte Prägeschwäche. (Switzerland, canton of Luzern, dicken of 1612, Luzern mint, date in legend. About extremely fine, Slightly weakly struck.)"

This type was struck 1612-16. It has the date next to St. Luke. A prior type (KM 16) had the date on the eagle side. The dicken was 24 kreuzer or 4/15 thaler but we find it was generally worth a quarter thaler.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 8.6 g, silver, this specimen 9.00 g.

Catalog reference: KM 18, D.T. 1169a, HMZ 2-635e.
