Luzern (1570) schilling
These specimen comprised lot 5327 in Sincona Auction 102 (Zürich, October 2025), where it sold for 190 CHF (about US$286 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SCHWEIZ. Luzern. Stadt und Kanton. Schilling o. J. (1570), Luzern. Wappen im doppelten Vierpass zwischen L - V. Rv. Hl. Leodegar stehend von vorne, ohne Bogeneinfassung. Antiqua Buchstaben. Sehr schön- vorzüglich. (Switzerland, canton of Luzern, undated schlling, circa 1570, Luzern mint. Obverse: arms in a double quadrilobe between "L V"; reverse: St. Leodegar stands facing, without an arch overhead. Antiqua lettering. Very Fine-Extremely Fine, two pieces.)"
This schilling is attributed to 1550-75 in Numista. Numerous varieties of punctuation exist. Other schillings of the time had different obverse legends ("MONETA NOVA LVCERNENSIS" or "MO NO LVCERNENSIS"). One thaler was 36 schilling.
