Luzern (1)601 schilling
This specimen was lot 3332 in Sincona sale 91 (Zürich, May 2024), where it sold for 180 CHF (about US$238 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SCHWEIZ Luzern, Schilling 1601, Luzern. Mindere Jahreszahl 6 - 01 seitlich des kleinen Luzernerwappens. Sehr schön. (Switzerland, canton of Luzern, schilling of 1601, Luzern mint, with abbreviated date divided by a small coat of arms. Very fine.)"
This type was struck 1596-1605 in many varieties of obverse and reverse legends. At this time, one thaler made 36 schilling or 72 kreuzer. St. Leodegar, depicted on the reverse, made an enemy of Ebroin, mayor of the palace of Neustria, and was blinded on his orders in AD 679.
