Steve Album Auction 52, lot 1001

This specimen was lot 1001 in Steve Album Auction 52 (Santa Rosa, CA, May 2025), where it sold for $480. The catalog description[1] noted, "LUXEMBOURG: Charlotte, 1919-1964, AR 25 centimes, 1946, Essai at left side of obverse, off-metal strike in silver, mintage of only 500 pieces, a stunning reflective specimen state example! PCGS graded Specimen 67." The regular bronze issue of 1946-47 (KM 45) is common. Essais are known in gold, silver (shown here), bronze, similor (brass), lead and aluminum.

Recorded mintage: 1,000,000 in bronze plus 500 in silver.

Specification: regular issue: 2.5 g, bronze, 19 mm diaeter; this essai: 3.15 g, silver.
