Luxembourg 1700 sol
This specimen was lot 1164 in Jean Elsen sale 144 (Brussels, March 2020), where it sold for €260 (about US$343 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"LUXEMBOURG, Duché, Charles II (1665-1700), billon sou de Luxembourg, 1700, Anvers. D/ Croix de Bourgogne couronnée, ornée du bijou de la Toison d'or, accostée de la date. R/ Ecu de Luxembourg couronné. Rare Légères traces de corrosion. Très Beau. (duchy of Luxembourg, Charles II, 1665-1700, billon sol of 1700, Antwerp mint. Obverse: floriate cross cantonned with the date; reverse: crowned arms of Luxembourg. Rare, light traces of corrosion, Very Fine.)"
The Spanish issues for the Low Countries were dominated by coins for Brabant and Flanders. The issues for Luxembourg are scanty; this type is not listed in the SCWC. Luxembourg and the rest of Belgium passed to Austria by the terms of the Treaty of Utrecht in 1715.
