Jean Elsen sale 144, lot 1165

This specimen was lot 1165 in Jean Elsen sale 144 (Brussels, March 2020), where it sold for €200 (about US$264 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"LUXEMBOURG, Duché, Charles II (1665-1700), billon demi-sou de Luxembourg, 1700, Anvers. D/ Croix fleuronnée, cantonnée de la date. R/ Ecu de Luxembourg couronné. Rare. Beau à Très Beau. (duchy of Luxembourg, Charles II, 1665-1700, billon half sol of 1700, Antwerp mint. Obverse: floriate cross cantonned with the date; reverse: crowned arms of Luxembourg. Rare, Fine - Very Fine.)"

The Spanish issues for the Low Countries were dominated by coins for Brabant and Flanders. The issues for Luxembourg are scanty; this type is not listed in the SCWC. Luxembourg and the rest of Belgium passed to Austria by the terms of the Treaty of Utrecht in 1715.
