This specimen was lot 1238 in Jean Elsen sale 164 (Brussels, March 2026), where it sold for €180 (about US$251 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"LUXEMBOURG, Duché, Jean de Bavière et Élisabeth de Görlitz, engagistes (1419-1425), AR demi-beyersgroschen, 1419-1424, Luxembourg. D/ + IOH' DVX BAVAR' Z FIL HO' Écu écartelé de Bavière-Palatinat. R/ MONE-A NOV-A FCA- LVC'B' Écu luxembourgeois sur une longue croix pattée. Belle patine. Très Beau. (duchy of Luxembourg, John of Bavaria and Elizabeth of Gorlitz, mortgagors, 1419-25, silver half groschen, circa 149-24, Luxembourg mint. Obverse: quartered arms of Bavaria and the Palatinate; reverse: Luxembourg arms over a long cross pattée. Nice patina, Very Fine.)"

Sigismund of Luxembourg, Holy Roman Emperor 1433-37, defaulted on a mortgage to Elizabeth of Gorlitz, who foreclosed on the collateral, namely, the duchy of Luxembourg, then much larger than today's grand duchy. She ruled as duchess 1411-43, when the duke of Burgundy seized the province. This type was accompanied by quarter and full beyersgroschen. Many varieties exist.
