Künker sale 386, lot 5319

This specimen was lot 5319 in Künker sale 386 (Osnabrück, March 2023), where it sold for €1,200 (about US$1,551 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"LÜNEBURG, STADT, Reichstaler (32 Schilling) 1622, mit Titel Ferdinands II. Feine Patina, kl. Schrötlingsfehler am Rand, sehr schön-vorzüglich. Exemplar der Auktion Fritz Rudolf Künker 12, Osnabrück 1988, Nr. 1880. (city of Luneburg, thaler of 1622, struck in the name of Ferdinand II. Fine patina, minor edge flaw, very fine to extremely fine.)"

This type was struck 1622-26 by the city of Luneburg, not the duke. The city issued thalers until the end of the Thirty Years War.
