Lucca 1806 5 centesimi
This specimen was lot 30144 in Heritage sale 3040 (Chicago, April 2015), where it sold for $705. The catalog description[1] noted, "Lucca. Felice & Elisa 5 Centesimi 1806 MS64 Brown NGC, A superb, nearly-gem example with original surfaces in classic medium-brown tone and traces of auburn luster within the legends. A scarce type in mint state, this is an ideal representative of this one-year type. From The Law Collection." This five centesimi was struck in the duchy of Lucca while it was ruled by Elisa Bonaparte, sister of Napoleon. The type was struck 1806 only. After Napoleon's fall, the duchy was given to a relative of the king of Naples, then attached to Tuscany in 1847. It is now part of Italy. Numista states this coin was actually minted between December 1813 and April 1814.
