This specimen was lot 29517 in Heritage sale 3037 (New York, January 2015), where it sold for $2,585. The catalog description[1] noted, "Lubeck. Free City gold Ducat 1791-HDF MS62 NGC. Excellent, with classic, golden patina and fully-rendered design features--quite a feat for a coin of this age. Despite a slight bend in the flan, the fields surprise with much reflectivity. With a mintage of just 1,800 pieces, this is a scarce mint-state example, seldom seen in the marketplace." The city of Lubeck, on the Baltic Sea, struck ducats throughout the eighteenth century; the last issue was in 1801.

Recorded mintage: 1,800.

Specification: 3.49 g, .979 fine gold, .109 troy oz AGW.

Catalog reference: KM 195, Fr-1500.
