Lubeck 1727 thaler Dav-2410
This specimen was lot 2165 in Sincona sale 23 (Zürich, May 2015), where it sold for 1,700 CHF (about US$2,135 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"Lübeck, Bistum, Sedisvakanz 1727 Taler 1727. Titel Karl VI. Vorzüglich. (bishopric of Lubeck, sede vacante thaler of 1727, struck in the name of Karl VI. Extremely fine.)"
This is one of the few thalers issued by the bishop of Lübeck in the eighteenth century. The bishop was also duke of Holstein-Gottorp and was Lutheran, not Catholic. This type was issued on the death of Karl I and prior to the elevation of Adolf Friedrich (1727-50).
