Lubeck 1712-IHF thaler Dav-2414
This specimen was lot 2220 in Künker Auction 425 (Osnabrück, July 2025), where it sold for €24,000 (about US$33,984 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"DEUTSCHE MÜNZEN UND MEDAILLEN · LÜBECK, STADT Reichstaler (32 Schilling) 1712, mit Titel Karls VI. und dem Abzeichen des Bürgermeisters Johann Westken. MONETA . NOVA . - LUBECENSIS . / SALVO . CAES . - SALVA . RESPUB . St. Johannes v. v., Kopf halbl. gewandt, mit Lamm, Buch und Fahne in der Linken, unten Stadtwappen//CAROLUS . VI . D : G : - · ROMA : IMP : SEM : AUG : / ELECT . FRANCOFURT : - XII . OCT . MDCCXI . Gekrönter Doppeladler mit Reichsapfel auf der Brust, darunter das Bürgermeisterabzeichen zwischen der Signatur I H - F · und der Jahreszahl 17 - 12. Von großer Seltenheit. Feine Patina, sehr schön-vorzüglich. Exemplar der Auktion Fritz Rudolf Künker 337, Osnabrück 2020, Nr. 1270. Extremely rare, fine patina, very fine to extremely fine.)"
This type was struck 1712 only, for the election of Charles VI as emperor, and is rare. Altho it is valued at 32 schilling, later thalers were 48 schilling.
