This specimen was lot 8253 in Ponterio sale 160 (Baltimore, June 2011), where it sold for $1,150. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Lubeck. Taler, 1631. Nicely toned. EXTREMELY FINE." This type is recorded in the SCWC for 1627-35; very similar thalers were struck until the 1670's. Despite the lengthy run, all are rare and expensive.
