Lubeck 1622 thaler Dav-5449
This specimen was lot 1717 in Jean Elsen sale 162 (Brussels, June 2025), where it sold for €240 (about US$333 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"ALLEMAGNE, LÜBECK, Ville libre, AR Reichstaler de 32 Schilling, 1622. Au titre de Ferdinand II. D/ B. de saint Jean-Baptiste de f., ten. l'agneau de Dieu, au-dessus de l'écu de la ville. R/ Aigle impériale couronnée. Nettoyé. (Germany, city of Lubeck, silver thaler of 32 schillings of 1622, struck in the name of Ferdinand II. Obverse: St. John the Baptist facing, holding the Lamb of God, the arms of the city below; reverse: crowned imperial eagle. Cleaned, Fine - Very Fine.)"
This type is listed for 1620-27 and is fairly common for a thaler from this town on the Baltic Sea.
