Sincona sale 77, lot 2201

This specimen was lot 2201 in Sincona sale 77 (Zürich, May 2022), where it sold for 1,600 CHF (about US$1,942 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"GERMANY | Schlesien | Städte. Löwenberg. Taler 1615. Mit Titel von Matthias. Schiessprämie. Selten. Fast vorzüglich. Feine Patina. (Germany, Silesian estates, Lowenberg, thaler of 1615, struck in the name of Matthias, shooting festival prize. Rare, About extremely fine, Nicely toned.)"

The town obtained permission from the emperor to strike this thaler on the occasion of a shooting festival. Several varieties exist.
