Künker sale 263, lot 1591

This specimen was lot 1591 in Künker sale 263 (Osnabrück, June 2015), where it sold for €3,200 (about US$4,134 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"LOBKOWITZ, FÜRSTEN Franz Josef Maximilian, 1784-1816. Konv.-Taler 1794, Wien. RR Nur 300 Exemplare geprägt. Vorzüglich. (Germany, principality of Lobkowitz, Francis Joseph Maximilian, 1784-1816, convention thaler of 1794, Vienna mint. Rare, only 300 pieces struck, extremely fine.)"

The SCWC lists a twenty kreuzer, this thaler and a ducat as the entire output for this state in the eighteenth century. The ancestral seat is in Bohemia, where the SCWC catalogs this type, but the prince spent his life in Vienna as a patron, among others, of Beethoven.
