Sincona sale 87, lot 2613

This specimen was lot 2613 in Sincona sale 87 (Zürich, October 2023), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,

"ITALIEN, Repubblica Liguria, 1798-1805. 48 Lire 1801 / Anno IV, Genova. Fast sehr schön. Exemplar der Auktion UBS 76, Basel, Januar 2008, Los 2674. (Italy, Ligurian Republic, 1798-1805, 48 lire of 1801, Genoa mint. About very fine.)"

This rare type is listed for 1798, 1801 and 1804. Genoa was occupied by Napoleon in 1798 and made into the puppet Ligurian Republic. Genoa never recovered her independence; in 1815 it was annexed by the kingdom of Sardinia and is now part of Italy. Most of the issues of the Ligurian Republic are rare to very rare.
