This specimen was lot 47218 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Oklahoma City, OK, August 2025), where it sold for $456. The catalog description[1] noted, "LATVIA. 50 Santimu, 1922. Switzerland (Huguenin Frères) Mint. PCGS MS-65. Tied for the finest certified example yet holdered by PCGS." The Republic of Latvia was established in 1918 after the fall of czarist Russia. However, its independence was short lived, as it was occupied by Soviet troops in 1940 during World War II and the end of the war brought only incorporation into the Soviet Union. It regained its independence again in 1991.
