This specimen was lot 41113 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Costa Mesa, CA, August 2021), where it sold for $1,440. The catalog description[1] noted, "LATVIA. 10 Santimu, 1922. Le Locle (Huguenin) Mint. PCGS SPECIMEN-66 Gold Shield. This EXCEPTIONALLY RARE striking as a specimen--the only of its kind seen at PCGS--offers seemingly endless brilliance and a hint of a cameo nature through its frosted devices." Latvia's independence was snuffed out by Russian (then Nazi) occupation in 1940. Independence was not reclaimed until 1991. This is a one year type but is not listed as expensive.
Recorded mintage: 15,000,000 but no proofs mentioned in the SCWC.
Specification: 3 g, nickel, 19 mm diameter.
