This specimen was lot 3744 in Steve Album Auction 51 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2025), where it sold for $78. The catalog description[1] noted, "LAOS: People's Democratic Republic, AE 10 kip, 1991, Endangered Wildlife series, Tiger and Cubs, an extraordinary example, PCGS graded MS69 RD, ex Howard A. Daniel III Collection." This rather amateurishly designed NCLT honors the local tigers, which are relentlessly hunted in what remains of the Laotian jungle. This design was used on copper-nickel (KM 51), copper (KM 54, shown here) and silver (KM 45, 50 kip). Some were later gold plated.
Recorded mintage: 2,500 plus 30,000 in copper-nickel (KM 51).
Specifications: 15 g, 0.925 fine silver, 30 mm diameter.
Catalog reference: KM-54.
