Knyphausen 1807 9 grote
This specimen was lot 943 in Künker sale 293 (Osnabrück, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €950 (about US$1,281 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"KNYPHAUSEN, HERRSCHAFT, Wilhelm Gustav Friedrich, 1768-1835. 9 Grote 1807. Sehr selten in dieser Erhaltung. Feine Patina, vorzüglich-Stempelglanz. (lordship of Knyphausen, William Gustavus Frederick, 1768-1835, nine grote of 1807. Very rare in this quality, fine patina, extremely fine to uncirculated.)"
The lordship of Knyphausen is located in Ostfreisland and was claimed by Anhalt-Zerbst and Oldenburg. For the nineteenth century, two eighth thalers, KM 5 and 6 (shown here) comprise the entire coinage from this windswept locale.
