Kiribati, formerly the British colony of the Gilbert and Ellice Islands, is a group of coral islands in the Pacific. Kiribati received her independence from Great Britain in 1979. It was the scene of some of the fiercest battles of World War Two. This is the only issue of this denomination.
Recorded mintage: 20,000 plus 10,000 proofs.
Specification: 5.70 g, copper-nickel, 23.6 mm diameter (same module as old British shilling).
