Kiangnan ND (1897) 1 dollar Y-145
Kiangnan (Jiangnan) Province is situated south of the Yangtze River. It encompasses several well-known cities, such as Nanjing and Shanghai. Mints operated at many times, with a modern facility built in 1897. Later, other mints for copper and silver coins were opened in Shanghai and other cities.
The specimen shown was lot 60260 in Ponterio sale 162 (Hong Kong, August 2011), where it sold for $10,158. The catalog description[1] noted, "CHINA. Kiangnan. 7 Mace 2 Candareens (Dollar), ND (1897). 江南省造光緒元寶七錢二分銀幣。Reeded edge. Toned. 齒邊。有包漿。NGC VF Details--Chopmarked. Ex: The Frank Robinson Collection."
