This specimen was lot 73102 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, June 2020), where it sold for $105. The catalog description[1] noted, "KENYA. Shilling, 1978. Kings Norton Mint. PCGS SPECIMEN-65 Gold Shield. The final date in a fairly short series, this shimmering example glistens with alluring radiance and great luster throughout. Ex: Kings Norton Mint Collection." This type was struck 1969-78. On Kenyatta's death in mid-1978, this type was replaced by a shilling featuring his successor, Daniel Arap Moi (KM 20).
Recorded mintage: 20,000,000 plus a few of KM 20.
