Kelantan AH 1321 10 keping
This specimen was lot 2485 in Stephen Album sale 47 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2023), where it sold for $102. The catalog description[1] noted, "KELANTAN: Muhammad IV, 1900-1920, tin 10 keping, AH1321, Jawi legends belanjaan kerajaan kelantan sepuloh keping ("currency of the government of Kelantan, ten keping"), numeral 10 below // date formula suni'a fi dhi'l-hijja sanah 1321, pleasing lightly lustrous example, EF-AU." Tin, which is common in Malaya, has been used on a number of occasions to make coinage altho it is not especially suitable for such a purpose. Kelantan, an independent sultanate since the late 1600's, gradually fell under British influence and then control. The British maintained Kelantan as a buffer state between Thailand (then Siam) and their colony of the Straits Settlements. Kelantan was occupied by Japan in December 1941 and was transferred to Thailand 1943-45.
