Stack's Bowers May 2023 Collector's Choice sale, lot 72537
SB523-72537r.jpg

This specimen was lot 72537 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, May 2023), where it sold for $240. The catalog description[1] noted, "INDIA. Kashmir. 1/2 Rupee, VS 1925 (1868). Gulab Singh (under Victoria as Empress). NGC EF Details--Shroff Marked Edge. This charming example of the elusive type delivers strong details and handsome toning, and is a presentable example of the type, despite the noted shroff marks on the edge." This type is listed in the SCWC for VS 1914 and 1922 but not 1925. We presume that is why this example realized four times the catalog value despite being damaged.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 5.15-5.40 g, silver.

Catalog reference: KM-Y12.
