Jordan 1969 10 dinars
This specimen was lot 31502 in Heritage sale 3073 (Chicago, April 2019), where it sold for $1,440. The catalog description[1] noted, "Hussein gold Proof 10 Dinars AH 1389 (1969) PR66 Ultra Cameo NGC. Gold issue struck to commemorate Pope Paul VI's visit to Jordan." Jordan, long a part of the Ottoman Empire, was seized by the British at the end of World War One but then granted independence under a local monarchy in 1946. King Hussein (r. 1951-99) proved to be an adroit politician who managed to maneuver between Israeli armed strength and the urgings of his Arab neighbors to attack Israel. Forced to participate in the wars of 1948, 1956 and 1967 (losing all three), the king stood aside when Sadat attacked Israel once again in 1973. This NCLT was part of a set that included KM 21 (half dinar, silver), KM 22 (3/4 dinar, silver), KM 23 (dinar, silver), KM 24 (2 dinars, gold), KM 25 (5 dinars, gold) and KM 27 (25 dinars, gold).

Specification: 27.64 g, 0.900 fine gold, 40 mm diameter, AGW 0.7997 oz.
