Jever (1559) thaler Dav-9337
This specimen was lot 5287 in Künker sale 386 (Osnabrück, March 2023), where it sold for €1,300 (about US$1,680 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"JEVER, HERRSCHAFT, Maria, 1536-1575. Taler o. J. (um 1559), Jever. Heilandstaler. RR Schrötlingsriß, sehr schön +. Exemplar der Auktion WAG Online 116, Februar 2021, Nr. 621. (lordship of Jever, Maria, 1536-75, undated thaler, Jever mint. Rare, planchet cracks, choice very fine.)"
This rare religiously themed commemorative, one of several issued by Maria, is attributed to circa 1559 by the SCWC. Maria never married and died childless and her domain passed to Oldenburg and later Anhalt-Zerbst.
