This specimen was lot 643 in Schulman auction 379 (Amsterdam, June 2024), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,

"PROVINCIALE MUNTEN - Zilveren Javase Ropij 1783, Zilver, Munten op Java geslagen Muntteken / Arabische tekst / jaartal in normale cijfers. Kz. Arabische tekst. Kabelrand.Mt. 5. S. Donkere patina. Fraai +. (Netherlands East Indies, Java silver rupee of 1783. Obverse: Arabic text and date; reverse: Arabic date; cabled edge. Dark toning, fine or better.)"

This type was struck 1765-67 and 1783-88 and is not rare in circulated condition. This type was struck 1764-67, 1783-88. Java, the chief island of Indonesia, was occupied by the British 1811-16. After the Congress of Vienna in 1815, Indonesia was returned to the Dutch but the English kept their colonies in Malaya, especially Singapore.
