This specimen was lot 34626 in Heritage sale 3067 (Long Beach, September 2018), where it sold for $870. The catalog description[1] noted, "Japan: Akihito gold Proof 50000 Yen Year 5 (1993) PR69 Deep Cameo PCGS. Stark contrast between jet-black fields and frosty golden devices characterize this handsome type, struck to commemorate the royal wedding of the Crown Prince." This NCLT was accompanied by a silver 5000 yen (KM Y108) and copper-nickel 500 yen (KM Y107). This is the first issue of this denomination.

Recorded mintage: 1,900,000 plus 100,000 proofs.

Specification: 18 g, 0.999 fine gold, 27 mm diameter, AGW 0.5787 oz.
