This ten yen was the first issued for the emperor Akihito. It superseded a similar type struck for Hirohito 1959-89. It was continued in production 1992-2015 as KM Y97.2 with the regnal date rather than "first" on the obverse.
Recorded mintage: 666,108,000 plus 200,000 proofs.
Specification: 4.5 g, bronze, 23.5 mm diameter.
