Japan 1895 (M28) 20 sen
This specimen was lot 51221 in Stack's Bowers Hong Kong auction (Hong Kong, April 2021), where it sold for $1,620. The catalog description[1] noted, "JAPAN. 20 Sen, Year 28 (1895). Osaka Mint. Mutsuhito (Meiji). PCGS MS-67 Gold Shield. Tied with just three others at the top spot in the PCGS population report, this tremendously alluring and captivating Gem exudes a charming, vibrant ring of toning and also offers luster that radiates throughout." This type, roughly equal to twenty cents, was issued 1873-77, 1880, 1885-88, 1891-1905. The later dates are common. The superseding type (KM Y30), issued 1907-11, was 4.05 g, 0.800 fine silver and was the last twenty sen.
