This type was struck 1951-56, 1965-2001 at the Rome mint for Italy. The 1956 is worthless in all grades. The first date for which proofs are noted is 1985.

Recorded mintage: 76,650,000.

Specification: 1.6 g, aluminum, 23.25 mm diameter, plain edge, designed by Pietro Giampaoli and Giuseppe Romagnoli.
