This specimen was lot 46232 in Stack's Bowers Summer 2026 Global Showcase Auction (Pittsburgh, September 2026), where it sold for $195.20. The catalog description[1] noted, "ITALIAN SOMALILAND. 1/2 Rupia, 1912-R. Rome Mint. Vittorio Emanuele III. NGC AU-55." This type, issued from the Rome mint for the Italian colony of Somaliland, is not rare in worn condition but the price ascends rapidly with grade. This type is listed for 1910-15 and 1919. It was struck to the standard of the Indian rupee rather than that of the Italian lira. Coinage for the area ceased in 1925.
Recorded mintage: 100,000.
Specification: 5.83 g, 0.917 fine silver.
Catalog reference: KM-5.
