Künker sale 386, lot 5828

This specimen was lot 5828 in Künker sale 386 (Osnabrück, March 2023), where it sold for €550 (about US$711 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"GROSSBRITANNIEN / IRLAND, ISLE OF MAN, Elizabeth II, 1952-2022. 1/4 Angel 1985. 7,77 g Feingold. GOLD. Vorzüglich. (Great Britain, Isle of Man, Elizabeth II, 1952-2022, quarter angel of 1985. Extremely fine.)"

The Isle of Man lies in the Irish Sea between Britain and Ireland and remains a British dependency. It is famous for motorcycle racing and tailless cats. Token coppers were issued for the island in the eighteenth century but large production did not commence until 1971. About 1980, the island fell under the domination of the Pobjoy Mint, which has minted and marketed dozens of NCLT commemoratives. This quarter ounce bullion piece was struck by the Pobjoy mint for the Isle of Man in 1985-86.
