Iraq AH 1240 5 para
This specimen was lot 1854 in Steve Album Auction 54 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2026), where it sold for $510. The catalog description[1] noted, "IRAQ: Mahmud II, 1808-1839, AE 2 para, Baghdad, AH1240, superb strike for this series, choice VF, RR, ex Kenneth A. Bovenkamp Collection." Altho the auctioneers catalogued this as a two para, the weight and the KM number match a billon five para struck in this year. The two para they may have intended to mention is KM 54, struck in copper AH 1238-1244 with a weight of 4.7-5.7 g. Iraq was under Turkish rule from the early sixteenth century until the collapse of the Ottomans in 1918.
