Iraq 1982 10 fils
This specimen was lot 76701 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2024), where it sold for $85. The catalog description[1] noted, "IRAQ. 10 Fils, AH 1402/1982. Llantrisant Mint. NGC MS-67. An appealing representative that stands on the top of the NGC population report, delivering good eye appeal, with sharp details throughout." The circulation issue of this one year type was made in Canada of stainless steel but the proofs were made at the Royal Mint from copper-nickel. It was accompanied by a five fils (KM 159), 25 fils (KM 161), 50 fils (KM 162), 250 fils (KM 163), 500 fils (KM 168) and one dinar (KM 164), called the "Restoration of Babel Series". This was issued early in Saddam Hussein's career, before he was denounced as a menace to humanity. No further coinage was minted until 1990.
