Iraq 1938 50 fils

from the Stack's Bowers 2020 NYINC sale, lot 23065

This specimen was lot 23065 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2020), where it sold for $552. The catalog description^[1] noted, "IRAQ. 50 Fils, AH 1357 (1938). PCGS MS-66 Gold Shield. The sole finest graded example of the type at either service, this incredibly lustrous Gem offers a vibrant palette, highlighted by cobalt, crimson, magenta, and burnt sienna. Immense eye appeal is on full display, captivating and enchanting the viewer." This type was struck 1937-38 for king Ghazi and is not at all common in nice condition. The monarchy lasted 1921-58.

Recorded mintage: 7,500,000 struck at Bombay plus 5,300,000 at London (shown here) without mintmark.
