Iran SH1348 50 dinars

Stack's Bowers May 2024 Collector's Choice sale, lot 33355

This specimen was lot 33355 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, May 2024), where it sold for $65. The catalog description^[1] noted, "IRAN. 50 Dinars, SH 1348 (1968). PCGS MS-65. A fresh, frosty exemplar of the date with enticing bands of tangerine tone." This type was struck SH 1332-1336 and 1342-1354. All dates are common and some are worthless. It is unusual to see this type in an auction. The shah was overthrown in 1979 and he died the next year.

Recorded mintage: 1,500,000.

Specification: 2.91 g, aluminum bronze, 18 mm diameter.
