SB525-75312r.jpg

This specimen was lot 75312 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, May 2025), where it sold for $85. The catalog description[1] noted, "IRAN. 10 Rials, SH 1345 (1966). Tehran Mint. Muhammad Reza Pahlavi. NGC MS-66." When Reza Shah seized the throne in 1925, he adopted the solar Hegira calendar, which used the Gregorian calendar but deducted 621 years. Thus, SH 1345 = 1966 AD. In 1931, the system was reformed and 100 dinars = one rial. This type was struck SH 1345-1352 and has the denomination spelled "ده﷼" (ten rials) on the reverse. All dates are essentially worthless.

Recorded mintage: 1,699,000, the lowest mintage date.

Specifications: 7 g, copper-nickel, 28 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM-1178.
