This specimen was lot 38761 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2025), where it sold for $192. The catalog description[1] noted, "IRAN. Safavid Dynasty. 1/2 Mithqal, AH 985 (1577). Mashhad Mint. Muhammad Khudabandah. NGC AU-58." This type was accompanied by a full mithqal (Fr-6b) and double mithqal (Fr-6a). Later in the reign, these denominations were superseded by the gold ashrafi, which was used until the mid-eighteenth century.
