This specimen was lot 2137 in Steve Album Auction 55 (Santa Rosa, CA, May 2026), where it sold for $420. The catalog description[1] noted, "SAFAVID: Tahmasp I, 1524-1576, AR shahi, Bistam, AH940, very rare mint just east of Astarabad; average strike, VF, RR." Bastam is today a small town in the region of Khorasan. Wikipedia reports three other villages in Iran named Bastam but they are even more insignificant. Astarabad is today called Gorgan, on the Caspian Sea. Numista shows this type struck at Shiraz AH 939-940 and 947.
