This specimen was lot 176 in Sincona sale 88 (Zürich, May 2024), where it sold for 2,000 CHF (about US$2,643 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"IRAN, Qajar Dynasty, Fath-'Ali Shah, 1212-1250 AH (1797-1834). 1/2 Toman 1238 AH (1823), Tabriz Mint. Sehr selten; Very rare. NGC MS63. Purchased from Mokhtarzadeh, London, in 1982."
This gold denomination, tho not as common as the toman, was struck at numerous mints during the reign of Fath 'Ali Shah. This style and weight standard is listed in the SCWC as type W and was used AH 1232-1239, tho Tabriz is known for AH 1232, 1238 only.
