Iran AH 1226 2 rials KM-690
This specimen was lot 160 in Sincona sale 88 (Zürich, May 2024), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,
"IRAN, Qajar Dynasty, Fath-'Ali Shah, 1212-1250 AH (1797-1834). 2 Riyal 1226 AH (1811), Tabriz Mint. Von grösster Seltenheit. Nur drei Exemplare bekannt, Leicht gereinigt; Of the highest rarity. Only 3 specimens known. NGC UNC Details. Lightly cleaned. Purchased from S. Cordry, San Diego, California, in 1983."
This rare piece is listed in the SCWC for AH 1226 only. It is the first issue of this denomination. The elaborate engraving and careful strike suggests that it was intended for presentation. It is far superior to the plate coin in the SCWC.
