Iran AH 1168 shahi KM-485.1
This specimen was lot 76446 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2024), where it sold for $85. The catalog description[1] noted, "IRAN. Hotaki Dynasty. Shahi, AH 1168 (1754/55). Isfahan Mint. Azad Khan. NGC AU-55. A very elusive minor issue of Azad Khan, this Shahi displays impressive details, with rich details and limited brilliance." Wikipedia comments, "The Hotak dynasty (Pashto: د هوتکيانو ټولواکمني Persian: امپراتوری هوتکیان) was an Afghan monarchy founded by Ghilji Pashtuns that briefly ruled portions of Iran and Afghanistan during the 1720s. It was established in April 1709 by Mirwais Hotak, who led a successful rebellion against the declining Persian Safavid empire." This type was struck at Isfahan (shown here) and Shiraz AH 1167-1170.
