Sincona sale 92, lot 37

This specimen was lot 37 in Sincona sale 92 (Zürich, October 2024), where it sold for 3,000 CHF (about US$4,158 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"IRAN Durrani Dynasty, Ahmad Shah, 1160-1186 AH (1747-1772). Mohur Year 9/1168 AH (1754/1755), Mashhad Mint. Selten, Prachtexemplar, Rare. NGC MS65. Cabinet piece. Purchased from O. Hamidi, Los Angeles, California, in 1994. Finest certified by NGC."

Like many Durrani issues, this one is listed under Afghanistan but Mashhad is today in Iran. The SCWC lists mohurs from Ahmadshahi, Attock, Bhakhar, Dera, Derajat, Herat, Kabul, Kashmir, Lahore, Multan, Najibabad, Peshawar, Rikab, Sarhind, Shahjahanabad but not Mashhad. The date should read "١١٦٨" but we can't spot it on this specimen.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 10.9 g, gold, this specimen 11.08 g.

Catalog reference: Album 3090, Rabino ACSM 759, KM -, Fr-1.
