This specimen was struck for the republic of Iceland in 1960. Formerly a kingdom under the Danish crown, Iceland declared herself a republic in 1944. The first republic coinages were one, five, ten, twenty-five aurar and one kronur issued in 1946. So many were minted that no more were struck until 1953. Few issues of the republic are catalogued at more than a few dollars.
