This specimen was struck in London for the kingdom of Iceland in 1942. The previous issues of this type were struck in Copenhagen but in 1940, the Nazis invaded and occupied Denmark. The kingdom was separated from Denmark in 1918 and coinage commenced with an issue of ten and twenty-five aurar in 1922. One and two kronur were added in 1925 and one, two and five aurar in 1926. The kingdom ended when Iceland declared herself a republic in 1944. Most issues are common but a few are scarce in high grade. This zinc issue is common is poor condition like the one shown but scarce nice.
Recorded mintage: 2,000,000 plus a few proofs.
