This specimen was struck in London for the kingdom of Iceland in 1940. The previous issues of this type were struck in Copenhagen but in 1940, the Nazis invaded and occupied Denmark. The kingdom was separated from Denmark in 1918 and coinage commenced with an issue of ten and twenty-five aurar in 1922. One and two kronur were added in 1925 and one, two and five aurar in 1926. The kingdom ended when Iceland declared herself a republic in 1944. This date is common but, like many zinc coins, is heavily corroded.
