Hyderabad AH1367/38 ashrafi
This specimen was lot 75234 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, May 2025), where it sold for $3,360. The catalog description[1] noted, "INDIA. Hyderabad. Ashrafi, AH 1367 Year 38 (1947/48). Hyderabad Mint. Mir Usman Ali Khan (under George VI as Emperor). PCGS MS-64. An appealing nearly-Gem specimen, offering alluring brilliance, sharp details, and wonderous appeal. As an example from near the end of the Princely States period in India." This rare type was struck year 39 only. In 1948, the British left India and the new republic forced all the princes to surrender their sovereign powers, including the mint right. The Hyderabad mint remained open, serving the new regime.
